Recently I have created multiple and varying types of piston doors, such as ones that require an indent in the wall, a couple that are three by three, open in a circle, and have a one block hole in the middle, and a couple that require having no hole in a wall whatsoever. I have also made a working four digit sequential combination lock, fitted with a self destruct trap (tricks people into walking on to the 'safe spot', then TNT below them falls into water and blows them up), a reset button, and a piston door that doesn't require a dent in the wall which opens once. Before the 1.3.0 update, I had created a sand, gravel, TNT, mob, and human cannon, but that broke in the update; near it I have made a zipper elevator, though that only worked before the update as well. I have created three by three portcullises (no hole in the middle, and they open vertically) which still works, and I have some knowledge using AND gates (requires two redstone signals to activate one redstone torch, useful in my four key sequential combination lock), and RS NOR latches, which takes one temporary redstone signal (such as one activated by a button or a pressure plate) and extends it to last forever unless deactivated in a similar fashion.
