i swear that people have made posts that the server is down at least 20-25 times in the last 3 days.... it has actually been a great opportunity for people to become active in the forums.
Maybe a little pop up window when something important has happened. And if the user doesnt have a simple cookie with a boolean value telling if the user has been to the front page from the moment the post appeared, he will recive that popup!
But most users dont like popups(like me) :/

Most popular browsers today block popups by default, unless the user explicitly agrees to receive popups by "whitelisting" the website. So I don't think this would change anything really.
I really don't think there is any problems... Because they should be able to see the hugh post on the front side, when they are able to start a new thead.
